Camelbak Forge: The Ultimate Leak Proof Travel Mug

Hey all

A bit of a different thing to share today but I've spent ages searching for a travel coffee mug that doesn't leak and this one is so good I had to share.

My commute to work involves a 30 minute walk then bus, I like to have my coffee on the bus so I'm always searching for a travel mug I can shove in my handbag and not have to worry about leaking over everything, until recently I had to ensure it was always stood upright but when I was introduced to the Camelbak forge all that change, a mug that's actually leakproof!

The Must Have Wooden Sunglasses from Woodstylz

Hey All

With the sun occasionally poking its head out from behind the clouds in our great British summer I thought I'd share these amazing sunglasses I've been loving.

Last year whilst at Glastonbury (we've shared all of our posts on the happiest place in the world here!) me and C saw a stall selling amazing wooden sunglasses. I've never bought any sunglasses for more than £20 as I lose or break them but the Woodstylz sunglasses kept coming into our head so we both decided to treat ourselves and grabbed a pair. We decided our eyes deserved proper polarized decent sunglasses and it's a decision we've not regretted!

Hey All

Cocorico is somewhere I've been absolutely loving recently, I've been for tea and cake, a macaron masterclass and an amazing breakfast so when L asked what I wanted to do for my birthday I decided it was time to try their afternoon tea!

The Brass Beetle

We were super lucky recently and were invited to the opening of the Brass Beetle, this is a new restaurant on Whitchurch Road in Cardiff and I think it fills a gap in the market.

Validation facial - Lush Spa Cardiff

Hey All

This is another of the posts I've been meaning to write for a while, so as I'm travelling down to Cornwall I thought I would share it with you.

As soon as I heard Lush was opening a spa I was pretty excited, I love going on spa days with my mum or friends and as I love all things Lush I couldn't wait to try it out. Back in January I bought my mum a treatment for her birthday so we could go together when it was open.

Festival Make Up!

Hey All

We love festival style and we've been to Glastonbury in 2014 and 2016 and just loved all the make up and hair. When we didn't get tickets this year we were gutted so we decided to have a night in at mine, play with our make up and drink cocktails and get C to take photos for us of the looks!

We love experimenting and decided this was the perfect excuse. (previous posts on hair here, top ten moments here and some makeup up from 2016 here!)

Falafel Kitchen - Cardiff

Hey all!

We've mentioned a few times recently that we've both gone vegetarian - for different reasons but we both enjoy food and cooking so much that we've fully embraced it and have been trying new recipes as well as new eateries.

The next on our list was Falafel Kitchen, found on Crwys Road in Cardiff.

10 Things to Help You Deal with Stress

Morning all!

I've got a bit of a different post for you today. The last few years have been stressful for me for a variety of reasons, probably no different to anyone else's life stresses but mine has obviously been building up and has recently made me ill. I might share more about this in future but for now I've been searching for ways to help me deal with the stress and recover, hopefully in a few months it will have gone away!

I've been writing this post for a while now but decided with it being Mental Health Week it is time to share my ideas and see if you have any you can share with me too. I've put together a list of things that have helped me the last few months and might help you too, so here's my top 10:

Hey All

Lately I've been trying to save money as I'm learning to drive and aiming to buy a house early next year which has meant less shopping. The embroidered trend is one I've been admiring from a far, I've been loving all the demin with embroidery but so far have resisited.

That was until I popped into my local asda and saw these beauties for a bargain £14!!

Celtic Manor Spa Weekend

Hey All

Before Christmas I was lucky enough to win a weekend break at The Celtic Manor with spa treatments. To say I was excited was an understatement and of course I took L with me. I've stayed in Coldra Court before (review here) but never the main resort so couldn't wait to see the difference.

We decided to book for the middle of January so we could relax after the Christmas rush. We headed down on Friday night after work to the resort.

We got settled into our room which had the most amazing marble bathroom! Of course we took selfies. The photos I took of the room didn't come out well and show it off to it's best. I think The Celtic Manor is a thing of preference with regards for decor, for me I love it, it's old fashioned but looks good and reminds me of the hotel I stayed in when I was in Disney.

Miss Patisserie Ziggy Bath Bomb

Happy Sunday morning!

Recently I've become bath obsessed, it has taken me a while but at the grand old age of 28 I love a bath and look forward to trying out new ones as often as possible.

I've been working my way through the Miss Patisserie range and my latest one to try was Ziggy.

Honey Bee Beautiful

Hello there!

Just before Christmas I was invited to an event in Miskin Manor for the relaunch of Honey Bee Beautiful, a local company in Wales who sustain their own bees and make beautiful artisan products from them.

HBB was founded by Catherine, who previously had a successful career in law which she gave up to pursue her love of beekeeping. If you didn't know, bees are EXTREMELY important. They have a massive job in the ecosystem for pollination and it is said that 1 in every 3 bites of food comes from pollinators like bees (I don't know the source of this but I've seen it many times!) so we really need to appreciate them and look after them more.

2017 Goals

Hello everyone!

I've been meaning to write this for a little while....all month if I'm honest but January has been a bit crazy for many reasons. Work has been the busiest it has ever been in my whole 2.5 years there and I've been out to Barcelona for a week, and my dad has been into hospital for many stressful and invasive tests that luckily were clear. That combined with the general start-of-the-year fitness and diet routines and I've spent my month being the 'exhausted pigeon' flapping around aimlessly not knowing where to go next or indeed what I was doing 2 minutes ago.

Life Update

Hey all!

So my blog posts over the Christmas break did not go to plan - a lot of my family have been ill so I was helping with lots of the food etc and then unfortunately I have got the dreaded flu myself! So lots of sleeping, lemon and honey, and trashy tv has been my plan over the last few days.

The cold part hasn't been too bad but the aches I just hate! The weirdest thing is that it was all in my hands and elbows so typing just wasn't possible - sooo I'm a little behind with my festive posts particularly a recap of 2016 and goals for 2017. I'm hoping to get them up this week!

Without further rambling here are some more pictures of my Christmas break including some of the lovely presents. I didn't take any pictures of all my presents together, I actually didn't get any make up this year and although all of my presents were lovely they consisted of a lot of pyjamas, socks and kitchen items!

Christmas Day 2016

Hey all!

I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas - I planned on getting some posts up in time for the Christmas period but it didn't happen because of so much food prep being required for the big day! You'll see what I mean below....

Christmas 2016

I spend Christmas with my family and pretty much move home for the Christmas break, even though I don't live at home any more I still end up decorating the house too, particularly the trees!

I love doing it but now I have my own and often do the ones in work it can mean decorating up to seven! I do love decorating the fireplace though, the lights and candles seem to make it!

Christmas Eve was spent in the kitchen, I honestly spent over 8 hours in there making various things. We pre cooked the turkey in the oven and the ham in the slow cooker. The ham was then put into the oven with a honey and mustard glaze on top to crisp up - it was amazing!

We also made the pretty popular Nutella Christmas tree, this was fun and really easy for such an effective treat.

Christmas 2016

Christmas 2016

All you need to do is roll out the pastry, cut it into a tree shape - I found it easiest to put them together and cut the shape first so they were both matching.
Then you need to spread a thick layer of Nutella onto one piece and top with the other. I also filled the off cuts too, I mean those extra bits almost taste better than the main tree right?

Christmas 2016

Christmas 2016

Then you just need to cut slices of equal size into the sides and twist upwards to give a better effect. It smells amazing when it's cooking away in the oven and we just dusted some icing sugar on top for some festive snow.

This tree is dangerous as you can so easily just keep pulling off a branch here and there!

After this we made some gingerbread men and I iced them very haphazardly - I attempted to do some bow ties and dresses but they look like they've had quite a few glasses of wine instead...oops!

Christmas 2016

Christmas 2016

For the main desserts we made the James Martin cheesecake (recipe can be found on Asda's website) which was a really easy no bake recipe, and covered with macaroons from the frozen section. We also decided that seeing as it was Christmas we'd also smother it in edible glitter and sparkly sugar, it was so easy and a big hit!

Lastly we made a chocolate torte, this was the BBC Good Food recipe. It was about 9pm by the time we started this so we were pretty tired but once the mixture was done it only took 40 minutes in the oven to cook and we had earned a big cup of tea and a sit down by then.

Christmas 2016

Christmas 2016

Christmas Day is my favourite, for the food and also for seeing my dog loving playing with the wrapping paper! He goes mad for it, loves helping people unwrap their presents and then rolling around with the paper afterwards.

My brother bought him a little Santa costume (which he absolutely hated!) but he was too big so it didn't stay on, still cute though!

Christmas 2016

Christmas 2016

We went to my aunty's for Christmas Day this year, the table was beautifully decorated with a gingerbread man theme. Isn't it amazing?

I piled my plate high with as much veg as possible (yes I did add gravy after taking this picture for anyone wondering where it is!)

Christmas 2016

Christmas 2016

We finished off the day with the obvious games and selfies with props - if you have played His and Hers we played it and even though us females outnumbered the guys we lost miserably!

What did you do Christmas Day? Do you have any traditions that you have to complete every year?

Pitch Cardiff and Wriggle Discount Code

Hey All

A few weeks ago when C and I fancied an impromptu date night he introduced me to wriggle which is an app that shows you deals for local restaurants. I believe at the moment it works in Bristol, Cardiff and Brighton.

We found one for Pitch so decided to go for it. I've been to Pitch before for cocktails and tapas but the menu has since changed so I was excited to try it out.

Pitch is based on Mill Lane and is a small little independent restaurant that has an impressive selection of menus (the roasts sound amazing!!!)

Pitch Cardiff Restaurant Review

Wriggle works by you purchasing a deal then use the code. We had a deal that was £7.50 for a pizza and drink. As you can see on the menu above the pizzas vary from £6.50 up £9.50 and drinks were draft beers, small wine and soft drinks.

Pitch Cardiff Restaurant Review

Here is my tasty pizza. As it's a welsh restaurant they had a lamb and mint pizza on the menu and as a red meat lover I had to try it. This one is on the menu for £8.50 which even without the deal we did is reasonable. It was packed full of an impressive amount of lamb and the lamb was so tender.

If you're in Cardiff I can't recommend Pitch enough and if you're in Bristol London of Cardiff it's worth downloading the wriggle app. If you use this code NYHNFL it gets you money off your first voucher!

Dirty Martini Cocktail Masterclass

Hey All

Last week we were invited to a cocktail masterclass as Dirty Martini. Of course we said yes, we were both gutted to have missed opening night and couldn't wait to try it out. If you've followed us from the early days you'll know we are big cocktails fans (the blog used to be cosmetics, shopping and intoxication) and used to post recipes to our favourite cocktails weekly.

There are five Christmas Cocktails on the line up this year. We got to make two of them the Christmas Cheer and Mince Chai. The other three include the Ambrosia Martini on the far left which has an amazing combination of cognac, white chocolate liqueur, licor 43 (this stuff smells amazing if you've never tried it), yellow chartreuse and butterscotch schnapps. In the middle we have the Sticky Toffee Fizz (the flute is covered in powdered yoghurt and berry!!) With rum, tequilla, caramel, pimento dram liqueur and prosecco this sounds like a winner to me. The 4th cocktail along in the picture above is the Quince and Walnut Old Fashioned this one has whiskey, sherry, bitters, quince jelly, walnuts, mandarine napoleon and sugar in. I'm intrigued by this one and definitely want to try it out.

Dirty Martini

Dirty Martini is set on St Mary Street and an ideal location. I wasn't sure what to expect even though I've been to the one in London but when I walked in I was so impressed, even though it's a big open space it doesn't feel it. The decor, furniture and bar are all amazing.

How amazing is the artwork!!

Dirty Martini

The cocktail masterclasses are £30pp and include making two cocktails, festive sharing platters and a Bellini on arrival. You also get your own bartender for the duration of the class. Considering the Christmas cocktails are £9 each it's a bargain and such a great experience. We loved getting behind the bar and making our own.

As we got being the bar we were so impresses by how many fresh ingredients there were. The bar area was also super clean which is always nice to know! Look at all the dried fruits and different bits that also get added to the cocktails!

Dirty Martini

First of all the different equpiment was explained and what cocktails they were used for as well as how to seal the shaker! Nobody wants that leaking out on them!

Dirty Martini

First up we made the Christmas Cheer. This has two different Gins, Cherry Liqueur, Raspberry Syrup, Luxardo Maraschino, Orange Bitters and Pomegranate in! This was sooooo tasty. The cherry was a good flavour and didn't taste artificial. I find cherry such a hit and miss flavour. The orange bitters in this really make the difference. I was surprised how much two splashes can add. How pretty is this garnish. We got to spray paint a cherry gold for the occasion. The finishing touches that go into the cocktails is so impressive.!

Dirty Martini

The food was amazing on the festive platters, we got polenta chips, mac and cheese balls, fried chicken, beef sliders, salmon nicoise and tomato arancini. It was all so good!!

Then we got to make our last cocktail the Mince Chai (I was really looking forward to this one!) This contained Bold London Spirit, Pimento Dram Liqueur, Ginger Bread Syrup, Chai Tea Syrup, Apple Juice, Egg Whites, Cherry Bitters and Citric Acid.

I'm always a bit sceptical of cocktails with egg whites in but when shaken well the eggs create and amazing foam and it really did taste delicious. It smelt like a Christmas yankee candle and I mean that in a good way! We had to try to float the dried apple and the star anise on top!

Dirty Martini

L and I were so impressed we're going back for our annual Christmas Night out. We can't wait to tuck into the platters and try some more cocktails from the menu.

They also have great happy our deals we can't wait to try. Mon - Thurs happy hour runs from 3pm-10pm, Fri and Sat 12-9pm and Sunday all day long. Happy hour includes 2 for £20 on sharing platters (L and I are planning to sample two from the menu and pig out!!) and half price Dirty Dozen Cocktails and Martinis! We can't wait to try out the iconic Martinis. We've been looking for somewhere to replace our once beloved Ten Feet Tall (anyone else been disappointed with it lately) and we think we've found it!

Have you been to Dirty Martini?
