Kiehls Ultra Facial Oil Free Moisturiser

Hey all!

I'm back with another skincare review today - I'm totally obsessed and it seems to have taken over from make up recently. Though I'm sure this will be temporary!

I went to a Kiehls event when the new Cardiff store opened around Christmas time last year, you can find the post here. I picked up the Kiehl's Ultra Facial Oil Free lotion at the time and have been using it a lot since then, especially recently now the weather has got warmer again!

The Body Shop Drops of Youth Range

Hey All

This is a post I've been meaning to write for a while, I first purchased items from this range almost a year ago. Prior to going Cruelty Free last year The Body Shop wasn't massively on my radar with the exception of the body butters. I've since realised I've been missing out on some amazing skincare!

Top 5 Cruelty Free Skincare Brands

Hi all!

Happy Sunday! Hope you're having a relaxing morning. I'm catching up with jobs before going to my friends son's first birthday party - he's such a cutie I can't believe he's one!

Today's post is a summary of my favourite cruelty free skincare brands. M made the switch a while ago now and I try my best to buy cruelty free, skincare is much easier for me and I'm just finishing up using some products from before. Make up is a bit more difficult but with brands like Urban Decay, Illamasqua and Make Up Revolution it is a lot easier!

Kiehls Nightly Refining Micro Peel Concentrate

Hello all!

I'm back with another Kiehls review today, this time it's a fairly new product called the 'Nightly Refining Micro Peel Concentrate'

I picked this up at the same time as my other purchases - the Midnight Recovery Concentrate, Daily Reviving Concentrate and the Creamy Eye Treatment - but it has taken a little longer for me to post about. Let me explain to you what it is.

Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado Review

Morning all!

Hope you're having a lovely bank holiday Monday - I very much enjoyed turning my alarm off last night so I could have a lie in (only to wake up at 6.30 anyway...!)

Today's review is of Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado. I won this before Christmas at an event at the then new Kiehl's store in Cardiff (post here). They had a raffle and I was extremely lucky to win! I still can't believe it as I'm never normally lucky at all so this was amazing!

The Body Shop Drops of Youth Liquid Peel

Morning all!

The last few weeks I've been using some new skincare to get my skin in better shape for the summer. I don't currently have any plans to go away anywhere but having skin that doesn't require any make up or only light make up makes you feel a lot more free doesn't it?

My latest purchase has been from the Body Shop and their range called the Drops of Youth.

Antipodes Rejoice Light Day Cream

Hello there!

If you've read Mia's post on the Antipodes Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream then you will know we were recently sent some products from Antipodes containing avocado. Everyone is totally obsessed with the stuff lately and it's not hard to understand why!

Avocados are renowned for containing a large number of healthy fats and are championed for a healthy diet for weight loss, shiny hair and of course good skin. But if you're applying it instead of eating it, is it worth it?

Antipodes Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream

Hey all

As you'll know by now we love Antipodes so whenever we get the chance to review products we can't wait. The Manuka honey range is one of my favorites and it's lasting so long as the eye cream is a big pot (review Here and all Antipodes posts Here). Antipodes is the brand i turn to now for luxury quality cruelty free skincare.

Avocados are everywhere at the moment, there popular for diet, skincare and hair care. I love eating them but haven't specifically sought out skincare containing avacado oil so couldn't wait to try this out. As I'm loving my Manuka honey day cream I decided to try the Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream, I've been testing it for the last month or so now so I could really see the effects it has on my skin.(L got the Rejoice light facial day cream that I'm sure she'll share soon.)

Winter Skincare Update

Good morning!

We all know skincare needs to change with the seasons just like clothing, mine has changed a lot over the years with ageing being a wonderful factor to add to the mix - so today's post is an update of the latest products I've been using and would recommend for anyone looking to try out some new products.

So starting in order, let's talk about the cleanser. I've been using Miss Patisserie's Coconut Cleansing Bar a lot recently, but there's not a lot of it left now and it certainly isn't worthy of trying to photograph now! You can see my review by clicking here, but I have also been trying out the Botanics Hydration Burst Dual Action Cleanser.

So far I really like it, it's quite thick and melts on contact with your skin. It seems to be pretty good at removing most make up too so I've been quite impressed with it so far.

After this I use the Kiehls Daily Reviving Concentrate in the morning, I've recently written a post which you can read by clicking here, but as a quick summary I've been using 3/4 drops of this and warming it with my fingers before applying to my face.

Skincare Routine 2016

Skincare Routine 2016

It sinks in pretty quickly so there's no time wasted waiting around, I normally apply my eye cream at this stage. The Antipodes Skin Brightening Manuka Honey eye cream is really light and hydrating (full review here). I'd use this all year round and not just for winter, but it's what I'm currently using.

After this, for day I've been using the Ultra Facial Oil-Free Lotion. My face gets shiny pretty quickly which is annoying with the combination of dry skin, getting a balance is hard work. This one has been really good so far and it has definitely helped to reduce the shiny oil slick appearing on my t-zone. I'm sure I will write a post on this soon!

Skincare Routine 2016

Skincare Routine 2016

That's it for day time. In the evenings I use the same cleanser but occasionally also use Origins Modern Friction scrub. It's been one of my favourites for years and leaves my skin feeling super smooth. I'd definitely recommend it.

Skincare Routine 2016

Skincare Routine 2016

In the evening I use the Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate first. I was using this every night but after a week or so my skin was getting a bit sensitive around my mouth so I started using it every other day instead. I'll be writing a full review of this soon but the plan is that this will help remove the last few scars I have from having acne a few years ago and basically just smooth it all out.

I follow this with the Midnight Recovery Concentrate which is pretty famous. It smells of lavender and sinks into my skin really quickly too, I wasn't sure if I'd like it but so far it has been great so I'm going to keep using it and see how my skin fares over winter.

Skincare Routine 2016

Skincare Routine 2016

I then follow this with the Antipodes Skin Brightening Manuka Honey Day Cream. Even though it's a day cream I still use it at night because I don't want to pile on too many heavy products onto my skin at once, layering seems to work well for me so I'm sticking with it!

Sometimes though, my skin needs a massive hit of hydration so then I get the Antipodes Divine Oil out. This oil is a lot thicker than the others in this post and it does sit on the skin a bit more. This oil has a much bigger hit of hydration that can only be used in the night, my skin feels a lot better after using it but it's not something that can be used during the day for me.

Skincare Routine 2016

So that's my current skincare routine for extra hydration over the colder months - basically the more the hydration the better!

Have you tried any of these products? What products are your favourite to use over winter?

*The Antipodes products were sent for review a few months ago (although I have also bought them myself too because I really do love them!) and the Kiehls Midnight Recovery was won at an event.

Kiehls Daily Reviving Concentrate

Good morning all!

A few weeks ago I went to an event for Kiehls in their new store in Cardiff. The post on the event can be found by clicking here, and I've been using everything daily since I purchased it.

My skin has changed a lot over the last few years (thank you ageing!) and with winter in full force now I knew I needed to overhaul my skincare for something more appropriate.

I spoke to Katie in store during the event where she tested my skin and found that it is oily and also dehydrated - this I pretty much knew but it was good to have it confirmed.

I picked up the Daily Reviving Concentrate (DRC from now on) based on her recommendation and have been using it every morning for the last month.

Kiehls Daily Reviving Concentrate

The DRC is a dry oil containing Ginger Root, Sunflower oil and Tamanu oil and have 100% natural origins plus it is paraben free, mineral oil free, non-comedogenic and non-acnegenic. All of this sounds pretty good for me as I still worry about my skin reacting and bringing back the acne I had a few years ago.

I wanted to add more hydration to my skin routine without overloading my skin during the day, my face gets shiny enough throughout the day without any additional help but it also felt like a smooth grade of sandpaper and I was a bit stuck what to do.

Kiehls Daily Reviving Concentrate

Kiehls Daily Reviving Concentrate

I've been applying a few drops of this to my finger tips and warming it before applying to my face, I think it's only supposed to be 1/2 drops but I often need 4 just to apply it to my whole face, my skin drinks it up so quickly!

I began with 1/2 but it wasn't enough so I slowly increased it and everything is absorbed so I figured it was fine.

The oil is not only supposed to be very hydrating but is also supposed to help fight daily skin aggressors and helps to keep it looking youthful - all of which sound very promising.

Kiehls Daily Reviving Concentrate

Kiehls Daily Reviving Concentrate

I've been using this with the Ultra Facial Oil-Free Lotion during the day, and pairing it with the Midnight Recovery Concentrate amongst a few other products to get my skin hydration level up.

My skin feels a lot better and seems to faring well against the -5C temperatures we've been seeing this week. As a test I have not been using any masks or anything in addition to this to see what happened and my skin feels pretty good.

I imagine it will be the combined use of all products but my skin is feeling a lot more hydrated and has not reacted in any way whatsoever to the additional oil I've been plastering on.

My face during the day has been a lot less shiny, the oil seems to absorb straight away ( benefits of being a dry oil!) and the moisturiser has been great too - I'll do a separate post on this soon.

There are however two downsides to this product which may or may not be an issue for you.

Kiehls Daily Reviving Concentrate

The first is price, this oil costs £37 for a 30ml bottle which I think is very high. I very much appreciated the chance to buy this with a discount at the event and I have loved the effects on my skin. Although I do believe in spending on skincare I do think some prices are just too high, are you just paying for the brand and some pretty packaging? I'm never sure and am also not sure on the source of the ingredients.

The second point is that unfortunately Kiehls are not cruelty free. M has gone cruelty free over the last few months and I completely understand why. I haven't made the change completely yet but have been looking into it.

One of their employees has told me that Kiehls don't test their products on animals when they are produced in New York, which is obviously great. However they are owned by L'Oreal and so their products are sold into China, where all products MUST be tested on animals to be sold, therefore they aren't cruelty free.

I personally think it's pretty ignorant of companies to continue to sell into a country that requests animal testing by law when they have the power to change it. If brands like Kiehls who are owned by L'Oreal can't make a stand, how and why would others? Urban Decay are owned by L'Oreal, they are registered cruelty free and do not sell into China, so Kiehls could do this too. So I guess in this case it depends if you are trying to be cruelty free, and to what extent.

I would always like to think I'd avoid companies that test on animals if there was an alternative, there really isn't any excuse to test on animals nowadays and so many other companies are cruelty free offering similar products that it is laziness.

For this reason I can't say that I would repurchase this oil for my own personal choices where budget constraints and beliefs mean more to me than trying out new products. However if these factors aren't an issue for you then I would absolutely recommend it, it's one of the best oils I've tried!

Have you tried the Kiehls Daily Reviving concentrate? Do you use oils to hydrate your skin?

What's your thoughts on companies that test on animals?

Pestle and Mortar Skincare Deals

Hey all

When we were contacted to see if we fancied trying some Pestle and Mortar skincare items we of course said yes. We have both taken care of our skin with full skincare routines started from our early 20s in the hope prevention is better than cure.

We couldn't wait to get out hands on the Pestle and Mortar products as not only are they cruelty free (a must for me now), they are suitable for all skin types, both of our skin needs seem to be changing so a product suitable for all is great, they also free from parabens, mineral oil, silcones, sulphates and propylene. When we first started the blog we wrote about parabens, sulphates and silcones in products and what it means, you can find these posts here.

Pestle and Mortar is an Irish beauty brand that have a great range of skincare products all in gorgeous packaging. I love the simplicity of the packaging and the monochrome it looks great on my bedside table.

We were lucky enough to be sent the Hyaluronic Serum. I'm so excited to give this a proper try. L has tried the alpha h liquid gold before which contain hyaluronic acid so was excited to try this to see how it compares.

The serum is formulated from the salt of hyaluronic acid. This is a smaller molecule and is said to be even more penetrative than hylauronic acid. I can't wait to give this a proper trial and see the results. As I'm getting older even though I have oily skin I'm still finding my skin dehydrated. Serums such as this one are great for getting moisture in my skin without drying it out.

It leaves the skin feeling really soft and the perfect base for makeup. We will be doing a full review once we've been able to try it for a while but wanted to go on and share it as with Black Friday and Cyber Monday just around the corner Pestle and Mortar are offering some great deals. It's worth signing up to the mailing list as you get 20% off. Non-subscribers still get 15% off thought.

Have you heard of Pestle and Mortar? Will you be taking advantage of the deals? They can be purchased from pestleandmortarcosmetics.com.

Cruelty Free Skincare Holiday Essentials

Hey All

As I've just got back from holiday there will definitely be a few holiday based posts coming up. I'll be sharing what I got up to soon but as well took over 2500 photos across 4 cameras there are a lot of photos to sort through.

This was my first holiday since moving to cruelty free beauty so I knew I needed to pick up a few bits and find substitutes for old favourites.

Hair Care

My hair is something I  try my hardest to keep in the best condition. It's died a lot so I was concerned about the effect of sun, sea and chlorine on it. To keep it in the best condition I made sure to pack these!

Tangle Teezer

If you don't have one of these you need it. I wasn't convinced at first as £10 was a lot for me to spend on a brush but since I got it I'm totally convinced. It easily gets through the worst knots without struggling too much. I've recommended this to colleagues, my mum and my sister law who have all bought them. My mum even bought on for the cat as in his old age was getting really dirty!

Marula Oil Rare Oil Treatment

L and I went to an event a while ago and were lucky enough to have this gifted to us. It is amazing. I love it so much. You only need about two drops and my hair loves it. I use the shampoo and conditioner as well. It makes my hair shiny and helps with the dryness. Even though it's expensive it really lasts. I'm still on my first bottle and I spilt about half of it over my dresser (there were almost real tears!!). As a holiday travel product it's also great as it can be used on the skin too.

Hair Clips

These are from New Look but I know they have similar in Primark as I was telling L to purchase them the other day. These clamps make putting the hair up so easy and especially in heat when you just want it off the face.

Facial Skin Care

Miss Patisserie Goji Youth Preserve Face Cream

Miss patisserie along with Lush is somewhere I turn to for a lot of skincare and bath needs both are totally cruelty free and have a great selection of products. This Goji Face Cream is a bargain £8.99 and I love it. It sinks into the skin so easily, it's got a lightweight texture but leaves my skin really well moisturised. I loved applying this at night to really replenish the moisture in my face.

Neals Yard Wild Rose Moisturising SPF 30 for face

I purchased this with holidays in mind but also for everyday. I'm not getting any younger and I do think a good high facial spf will help prevent wrinkles (prevention is better than cure and I'm hoping my skincare routine since I was 21 will help me in later life!!). This is heavier than I'm used to using everyday and for the first 2-3 weeks of using it I was a little spotty. It has calmed down now though and I'm happy with it. Even though I have oily combination skin and this is quite moisturising it hasn't been a problem. I use this everyday religiously now and it was amazing on holiday, My face didn't get burnt once and applying it in the morning was enough which considering I was in mid 30 degrees heat was amazing. I can't recommend this enough for holidays as well as everyday.

Body

Lush Sparkle Toothy Tabs

Toothpaste and deodorant have been the hardest cruelty free adjustment for me. (for the record for deodorant I use Dr Organics, post here) The toothy tabs were the first ones I bought. Lush Cardiff were helpful as always and gave me a few flavours to try out and this was my favourite. It's strange getting used to not having mint. These are perfect for travel as it's one less thing to worry about exploding in the suitcase!! The tooth powders are also great!

Antipodes Saviour Skin Balm

We shared this on the blog a few weeks ago and this was a saviour on holiday!!! I used it on mossy bites and sun burn religiously and it really helped put moisture back into sun burn and soothe the skin. So far I also haven't peeled on my sun burn yet. This is a holiday must for me now as it's great to have a multi use product,

Now I'm back from holiday I still use most of these products on an everyday basis! I can't recommend them enough.

Have you tried any of them?

Kiehl's Event - Cardiff

Morning!

Have you tried Kiehls? I've not tried a single product, so when we were invited to an event in the new Kiehls store in Cardiff I obviously couldn't say no.

I didn't know much about Kiehls as a brand but we were given an introductory chat which was really interesting, I had no idea how old Kiehls was nor how it started. Being a scientist I appreciate the fact it started as an apothecary waaaaaaaay back in 1851 and some of the developed products are still used to this day.

When they say the products have been 'expedition tested' they really mean it too - some of these products were used in trips to the top of Everest and in Greenland. They also help a range of charities including HIV/AIDs and local schools, plus they have a recycling program where you can return empty products for new ones by collecting stamps.

Lush Halloween and Christmas 2016!

Whenever that Lush invite pops up in our inbox to see the new products we get saving the penny's and get excited to get stuck into lots of new goodies! L couldn't make it this time so I popped along on my own excited to stock up on my favourite from last year yog nog soap (only to find heartbreak as it's not made this year!!! Why lush why!! But the lovely ladies on twitter have put in a request to lush kitchen so I'm crossing everything!!)

Annnyways, there are plenty of new goodies I still had to pick up!

Lush Halloween and Christmas 2016

Lush Halloween and Christmas 2016

Lush Halloween and Christmas 2016

How cute is snowie!!!!I love the Bowie tribute on this one. I love the events and hearing the stories behind the creation of the products!

Lush Halloween and Christmas 2016

Santa's belly returned this year! Complete with a little gold belt on the ones you take home. I love the scent of this but the Snowman Shower Jelly smelt even better and ended up in my bag of purchases!

Lush Halloween and Christmas 2016

Untitled

Santa baby is an amazing cold lip scrub which I've eaten about two pots of! They've now bought out the matching Lip Tint. I love that the lip stints come in screw up packaging now as it makes them so much easier to apply. I was lucky enough to have a santa baby lip tint in my goody bag. It's an amazing bright red perfect for the holidays and lasts sooooo well!! Sugar plum fairy is a new addition scrub and lip tint and tastes even better than santa baby! As an extra bonus it also only have 7 ingredients!!

Lush Christmas and Halloween 2016

I was happy to see Christingle back as I'm sure you've heard us both mention our love of minty products. I have a pot of this left over from last year I've been saving but will be getting stuck into now. For all the Snow Fairy Lovers there is also a Snow Fairy Body Conditioner this year. I really love the body conditioners especially in winter as I'm so lazy when it comes to putting on body lotion as I hate being cold when it sinks in.

Lush Halloween and Christmas 2016

Yog log has been bought out in a roulade this year so if you're missing the sent you can still purchase it!

Untitled

I love discovering new mixes of products. I like snow fairy but I don't love it.......but mix it with lord of misrule shower gel (only available till 31st Oct) and you have an amazing winnning combination. I've since popped back to the store and purchased lord of misrule so that I can mix the two together!! I never think to mix scents but I'll be trying it out more. Lush shower gels are more expensive but for me as they are cruelty free and the scent really lasts on the skin they are worth it. They lather really well so do last a while too!

So that's a speedy round up. I need to pop in again soon as I didn't get to stay for the whole event so missed some amazing bits I'll be going in to buy like the Santasaurus Bubble bar!!

Have you tried any of the seasonal products?? On Lorna's love it Lord of Misrule Bath Bomb I tried it and I'm totally hooked too. I can't believe I've not tried it before now.

Miss Patisserie Charcoal Cleansing Bar

Hey All

As you've probably guessed by now we are huge Miss Patisserie Fans, you can see the other products we've featured on the blog here. When I heard Miss Patisserie had bought out new cleansing bars I had to pop into the shop to try them out. (L has a different on she'll be sharing!) There are three different ones and are priced at a very reasonable £5.25. You can grab them here.

Miss Patisserie Charcoal Cleansing Bar Review

As my skin is oily combination I went for the Charcoal Purifying Cleansing Bar. It contains clays to soften skin, oils such as coconut to moisturise and activated charcoal helps to purify the skin.

Antipodes Grapeseed Butter Cleanser

Hey All

I've been meaning to write this post for ages but there has been so much going on lately I haven't got round to it. Antipodes contacted us to see if we wanted to try out some of their cleansers and as we are both big fans of Antipodes (L has written some reviews here). After going cruelty free (you can see some bits I've been buying recently in this haul) I've moved away from buying more high end beauty products as I hadn't done my research yet so was excited to see that antipodes is not only certified organic but also vegetarian society approved.

Antipodes Grapeseed butter cleanser review

Antipodes Grapeseed butter cleanser review

I decided to try the grapeseed butter cleanser which is recommended for dry skin. If you've been reading the blog for a while you'll know I have oily combination skin but lately I've been loving balm cleansers (especially the neal's yard wild rose beauty balm review here) as my skin has been feeling dehydrated and I love that balm cleansers really remove make up well.

Antipodes Grapeseed butter cleanser review

As you can see from the photos below is looks almost grainy, on contact with the skin it really melts in and isn't agressive on the skin at all, (also good call on the little spatula Antipodes much nicer than shoving my fingers in the pot!). I've been absolutely loving it, it leaves my skin feeling so smooth and clears away my make up easily. It feels like a real treat before bed. As I do have oily tendencies to my skin I do only use it before bed.

I'm hooked on Antipodes again (I need the divine oil back in my life) and can't wait to try more bits. Have you got any recommendations?

Cruelty Free Skincare, Deodorant and Toothpaste Haul

Hey All

I've mentioned before on the blog that I've gone cruelty free. I've been cruelty free for the past few months across all beauty products and will be switching across our household one's too. I don't know why I haven't done it sooner as I don't agree with testing for cosmetic purposes. I thought I'd share with you a haul and some bits I've been loving. I'll still feature products on the blog from time to time that aren't cruelty free as I'm not getting rid of make up if I already own it I just won't be repurchasing it.

One shop I've been going to more if Superdrug, I was always a Boots girl but Superdrug do amazing skincare that's all leaping bunny approved so it makes it easy to grab.

Cruelty free skincare, deodorant and toothpaste

Lush

Lush is somewhere I always turn too. They are totally against animal testing and have a great selection of products. One thing I thought I'd struggle to find and alternative for was toothpaste. Looking on the normal brands most seem to test on animals so I decided to try the toothy tabs. Sparkly is a great one as it's grapefruit and pepper flavoured so leaves the breath fresh. These also leave my teeth feeling really clean. Lush also do powders I'll be trying next. I did try the deodorant too and I love the Aromaco one but it's a strong smell and I did try T'eo but it's too harsh for my skin.

I also got a free BB seaweed face mask as I had so many empties to return. I love this scheme in lush.

Cruelty free skincare, deodorant and toothpaste

Cruelty free skincare, deodorant and toothpaste

Dr.Organic

Dr Organic a brand I've been turning too most. Deodorant is the thing I've struggled with most going cruelty free as I can't find a cruelty free antiperspirant (let me know if you have suggestions!) but the Tea Tree Dr Organic's one I've been loving as it leaves me feeling fresh. I've been stocking up on the range in Holland and Barrett and trying out different bits. I've got an aloe toothpaste I can't wait to try as it's meant to be whitening too.

Cruelty free skincare, deodorant and toothpaste

Superdrug

Superdrug skincare has been the an amazing find. It's all leaping bunny approved, really reasonably priced, usually on an offer of some sort and I've had bonus points when purchasing. I can't fault any of the skincare I've tried yet and I've been loving it all. Especially the glycolic overnight peel!

Cruelty free skincare, deodorant and toothpaste

The B.Radient rejuvenating serum is one of my favourite serums. It's light, easily sinks into the skin and makes my make up apply better after this. Such a must have for me now.
