Review: Illamasqua Eye Quad

For my first purchase from Illamasqua, I’ll admit this was a little random.

I picked it up from ASOS after falling in love with the packaging, the beautiful metallic cream shadows and their general ethos.

Illamasqua always intrigue me because I am drawn to their ad campaigns like no other, I mean the beautifully applied looks, crazy colours, wacky lashes and always something unique and quirky about the models such as their freckles or super pale skin.

I also love that they have such strong ideas about each collection and their ‘Alter Ego’ idea is brilliant.  love to wake up in the morning and decide who I’m going to be that day depending on my mood and my make up does reflect whatever mood I’m in.

This 4 Colour Liquid Metal Palette combines four of their cult highly pigmented metallic creams into one beautiful package.
I love that even their packaging is so inclusive, this really is a brand for anyone and everyone!
For people who love the muted looks and those who liked to go wild….which is normally everyone in work/play mode.

I do loooooooooooove this packaging. I’ve mentioned many times how I’m a fan of black and simple designs and although there are obviously plenty of this kind of packaging available from brands like MAC and Smashbox, Illamasqua also seem to add their own spin to it.

So the colours and names match up as follows:

Enrapture: Metallic Copper
Surge: Metallic Steel
Electrum: Antique Gold
Phenomena: Molten Silver

When I first opened the palette I was a little concerned that the creams looked a bit ‘sweaty’. It’s hard to come up with a term to describe it but I think sweaty is the only way!
You can see what I mean by the photo below, but this tissued off easily and I’ve since had absolutely no problem with this reoccurring.

Here are the colours swatched on the back of my hand in natural light and with flash:

You can see they stand out really well in both lights but really shimmer in a flash!

They’re both really pigmented and apply so easily and smoothly to the skin that there would be no trouble on the eyes too.

Here’s a few looks I created one evening!

044

The look in the photo above and below was created using Enrapture and Surge. I blended Enrapture (the copper) along the outside crease of my eye lid into Surge (the lighter steel colour).

These applied so easily and in both of these looks I used my finger to dab on the liquid metal where I wanted it and then blend out.

051

This look was created using Electrum (antique gold) and Phenomena (molten silver) in the same way as the one above.

Again they applied easily and the colours are so bright and pigmented.

052

As for wear they did last a decent amount of time but for maximum longevity I’d recommend applying a similar coloured powder over the top to make it last.
These would best be combined with some bright colours for a weekend look or with a smokey eye to make it pop.

I’m really looking forward to playing around with them!
Have you tried any Illamasqua products? What would you recommend?
