Ever since I saw this shade on Estee from Essie Button I’ve wanted. I tend to want most of her lipsticks as she seems to wear shades I love. I’ve been hinting to my other half for this since January. I was hopeful for valentines day he’d remember. He didn’t. So I started my hints again near our anniversary. They fell on deaf ears too. When we were out for dinner 2 weeks ago he pulled this little beauty out of his pocket. He knew I’d been stressed with exams so treated me.
The beautiful Brick-O-La is an amplified creme formula from the permanent collection so has the normal black and white packaging and smooth curved lipstick shape.
My box is a bit tattered as it was in his pocket but the boxes aren’t something I keep.
In the bullet I’d have never looked twice at this lipstick. If I hadn’t seen it on Estee I don’t think I’d have thought to get it. It looks nothing special in the tube.
Mac describes Brick-O-La as a mid-tone berry shade. I think the name describes it better and it’s a brick red shade with a slight berry hint.
The amplified formula is great as it means the lipstick is pigmented in one swipe. It applies smoothly and doesn’t settle into the cracks. I do find amplified formulas can be a bit drying on my lips but a bit of lip balm before stops this.
It’s a really long lasting formula and fades softly without leaving a line of colour around the lips.
The swatch really shows the softness of this shade. I find it a very wearable red. It’s enough colour to make you feel like you have lipstick with out looking as obvious and stand out as a pillar box red.
As you can see it leaves a soft natural shine to the lips and is very pigmented. It doesn’t smear down the face and stays looking neat.
I really love how this looks against my skintone and I can see this being my go to lipstick. It’s a perfect tone for me and doesn’t look too much.
Definitely one of my favourites now.
What are your favourites? Is Brick-O-La a shade you’d go for?
