Well hello there!
I’ve been meaning to share this review for a little while now but life has been so busy! After my trip to Croatia I’ve been travelling with work and will be away for the next few weeks, hopefully I will be able to keep up with everything.
I picked up the Kat Von D Lock It Foundation and Concealer at their opening event of the Cardiff stand in Debenhams a few weeks back (post here of the counter and the make up looks!)
I’d heard great things about the foundation, but was also concerned with the number of comments about the effects on dry skin. Many people said it wasn’t compatible with their dry skin and left patches throughout the day so I was a bit worried about this, but the promise of great coverage reeled me in!
I love the packaging, I’m a sucker for monochrome and metallic and this is my ideal combination. I love the KVD monogram and font too, perfect branding!
So as previously described the foundation promises 24 hour wear, full coverage and transfer resistant matte finish. The full coverage was exactly what I needed so I couldn’t wait to try it out!
I was colour matched at the counter and was matched to Light 44 Cool. This is basically my skin colour in a bottle and I was really impressed that they had so many light colours and tones. We’re both quite pale so have been waiting for KVD Beauty to arrive in Cardiff so we could try out the range and this is exactly why!
The bottle design is also really good, I’ve seen skincare bottles with the same tech and basically it means the bottom pushes up as you use it. It means there isn’t any waste as the product is pushed to the top as you use it so you get the full 30ml, this is amazing and I haven’t had or heard of any issues with it.
I also picked up the concealer, so I could try the full KVD base products. The concealer promises to be super creamy, with blendable full coverage and provides 24 hour wear.
They say you can use the concealer to brighten under eyes, cover blemishes, help to correct discolouration and redness, as well as highlight areas when contouring, so I was looking forward to trying this out. Especially knowing that our previous favourite NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer is no longer cruelty free I have been looking for an alternative.
I was matched in store for the concealer at the same time as the foundation. This is unfortunately the only downside I’ve found so far with my experience of KVD. At the time I was matched to Light 1 Neutral.
I like a concealer to cover my under eye bags and lighten the area…but I think I was wrongly colour matched.
I’ve swatched my range of concealers onto the back of my hand to show you, the middle is my everyday (Collection in Fair) and the top is my favourite (Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla) and these both match me perfectly, whilst still brightening under eyes.
You can see how much lighter the KVD Lock It concealer is so I’m disappointed that I wasn’t matched correctly, it’s too light and will be difficult to use which isn’t a problem I’ve had before.
The packaging however is beautiful and perfectly matches the foundation, I love the design and want the whole range just because of it!
The wand for the concealer is the perfect size and slightly bent which allows you to get around your nose and under eyes to cover blemishes and under-eye bags.
So how do they both look on? I’ve shared a photo below when I used both products for a wedding recently. The foundation is the perfect match and I’m really pleased with it, I love the coverage and it holds for a full day. I do sometimes get some patches because my skin is on the dry side but I can normally blend these in, and its an indicator that I need to use a hydrating mask!
At the moment I am mixing the concealer with another so that it isn’t so white. The coverage is great and it’s really blendable as well as hydrating so I’m impressed with the product, but the colour is far too light. It might be ok to use in winter when my skin has got a bit paler but I’ve just been away so definitely not right for now.
The Foundation is £27 from Debenhams and the Concealer is £20. I’d repurchase both as I love the foundation and the concealer is great, just not the right colour for me at the moment.
Have you tried Kat Von D? Do you like the coverage and matte finish of the foundation?
Have you ever been colour matched incorrectly?
