As we live in Cardiff I thought it was time to share the top things to do, I find when you live in a city you don’t always appreciate the things around you so this is a great tick list of things to do if you’re visiting or a resident!
Cardiff is a great city with loads of green space to offer and most things are within walking distance of the city center!
Visit the Castle
Cardiff Castle is right in the center of the city off the main shopping street. The castle is great to take a tour around and has loads to see in it including a walk around the battlements, the castle apartments and wartime shelters. Also in the summer they have outdoor cinemas which are amazing!! You can find more information here, and if you are a resident of Cardiff or work in Cardiff you can get a key to the castle for free entry.
Visit the National Museum
The Museum is about a 5 minute walk from the castle and a great cheaper option. There is loads to see in there and they are regularly changing the exhibitions. They also do lots of great activities for children. You can see what’s currently on at the Museum here.
Explore the City
Cardiff has loads of great parls to walk around. Roath Park is about 5 minutes from my house and so beautiful, I love walking up to the lake and walking around it. The Taff trail also goes through the city and it a great walk, it goes through Sophia Gardens which is also great to walk around. There is also the Millenium Stadium which looks so impressive!
Cardiff also has lots of arcades with amazing coffee shops, gin bars and great independent shops.
Do an activity
Escape rooms are everywhere now and when friends suggested we head down last year I couldn’t wait to try, if you’ve not heard of them you get locked in a room and have to figure out a series of clues in order to escape within 60 minutes. We went for the Enigmista one, we were a big group and split between two rooms but I can’t remember what the guys did for there. We started off handcuffed. The puzzles were challenging and really made you think, if you get really stuck you can ask for clues, we did once and managed to escape in time. I definitely want to go back to do the heist one. I love any activities that are going out and doing something, on city road (not far from the center and a bus route) is Boulders and indoor climbing center, if you’ve not climbed before you can book sessions with a tutor or do the bouldering walls which don’t require harnesses, my OH is competent so I was able to go in with him and climb.
Explore the food places!!!
If you’re not to this blog you may not know, we love food and eating out. Cardiff has a great selection of places for food and drink (we’ve done a post including some of our favourites here). Cardiff also has a few street food style places that we love. In the summer months there is Street Food Circus and there is also the Depot which hosts a few different events!
