We’re very happy to be part of the styling society for Salon Success this year. We love the Paul Mitchell, New CID and L’avoly products we’ve tried so fair and you can see some previous products we’ve loved here and here.
Today we’re sharing with you the Express Ion Unclipped 3 in 1 in rose gold. It’s fair to say we were both unbelievably excited when we opened it up as it’s absolutely gorgeous!! We both have a huge selection of different shaped and sized tongs and couldn’t wait to try them out. We wanted to show you the wands in action and how they look on different hair. L’s hair is long with some layers and mine is shoulder length and mostly one length now.
I love the convenience of having the one handle that can give three different looks and I’m actually getting rid of my others since getting this. My hair feels and looks healthy after using the wands due to the ceramic barrels and express ion complex and not feeling crispy (as some of my current one’s do!) plus they look so much prettier!!
The wand heads clip into the base and you’re ready to go, it comes with a variety of heat settings dependent on your hair type. I tend to stick at 180 as for me the curls last well and I don’t feel my hair is too damaged then.
The wand comes with three attachments to achieve three different curls and looks.
There’s a 1.25″ rod for full bodied volume (the straight wand), a 0.75″ to 1.25″ reverse tapered cone for soft curls and a 1″ bubble rod for tousled waves.
This is my favourite of the wands! I love big bouncy curls but with shorter hair I never seem to find they last. I’ve taken to adding a kirby grip to each curl as I undo it and then doing my make up being I remove them. They last then at least two days!
18 hours later
The next day it leaves my hair with bounce and body! I really love the effect of these!
The 1.25″ wand gives soft waves through the hair and last well to give movement and shape. They did start to drop out a bit but still looked pretty, they didn’t last as well the next day as the bubble wand!
The bubble wand was the first one I tried as it was intriguing to me as to what the curls what turn out like and I actually took it to Edinburgh with me the first time I went. Everywhere I’ve traveled since getting this I’ve taken it with me as I love being able to create different looks and it’s easy to take with me.
It’s really easy to use and the bubble wand gives irregular curls which I love.
This is the day after after being rained on and massive winds! It held it’s own pretty well and this was without any styling products as I’d been away so didn’t take any!
The day after the curls had dropped out and gave really natural looking curls after brushing through, this shows how long the curls stayed in as the evening after they were still in tact. I love putting some dry shampoo in, brushing it through and having a whole new refreshed look the next day.
Lastly is the tapered wand. This is the reverse to the wand I currently have and always used to use. For some reason this was the one I used last.
A few hours later!
This wand was my least favourite at first as my curls looked flat but as the day wore on and I played with them more I did love the effect they give and they did last well through the next day!
We were also lucky enough to be sent the Express Style Hot Off The Press Thermal Protection Hairspray. This was a great addition to the delivery and comes out as a very fine mist.
The second thing I noticed was the amazing smell, it’s lush! Hair products like this can smell pretty strongly of solvent but this one has a light fragrance to it and so doesn’t overwhelm you when you’re spending ages doing your hair like L does!
It doesn’t feel heavy or sticky on your hair either, and I found it helped to keep my hair in a better condition plus the curls stayed for longer when i used it.
It;s also cruelty free as all Paul Mitchell products are which M only supports these days!
We were also sent the Limited Edition Rose Gold and Metallic Charcoal 413 Sculpting Brush.
The slim paddle design is ideal for sculpting, styling and detangling wet or dry strands. After brushing my hair when drying it and sectioning it for curls, I like to use this brush to separate curls and give a more relaxed look, brushing it through helps to give a less ‘perfect ringlets’ effect.
We are huge fans of all of these so far and couldn’t recommend the wand more. It’s available from Paul Mitchell for £89.99 and is limited edition!
Love L and M
